Last year my Springer Spaniel Birdie had to undergo TPLO surgery on both rear legs. She had torn the ligament in her right leg in March and then suffered the same injury to her left leg in August.

As I now know, it is not unusual for this to occur in both legs. She is a very active dog, loves to play fetch and run everywhere. 

When it first happened I went to my vet. He highly recommended Dr. Reed who was then practicing at a local surgical center. I can’t overstate how happy we are that he did. Dr. Reed performed both surgeries and Birdie is well on her way to a full recovery. The second surgery was performed at my local veterinarian’s clinic due to Dr. Reed’s mobile surgery practice. This was very convenient and comforting for us and Birdie!

From a pet parent: Milan is a German Shepherd who was 2.5yr old when she met Dr. Reed. When Milan was adopted as a puppy, she had a front leg limp which the breeder told them told was panosteitis (or “growing pains”) and she would grow out of it. When the limping never improved and Milan could hardly walk around the block, X-rays were finally taken (about 2 years later) and showed an old fracture of the growth plate at the top of the humerus that had healed wrong. Unfortunately, there were no options to fix the fracture, so Dr. Reed did a shoulder arthrodesis (“joint fusion”) surgery when he still worked at a Specialty/Referral hospital in 2023. Milan’s parent sent Dr. Reed this note in December 2024: “…to update him on my German Shepherd, Milan, that he performed shoulder surgery last year. She is doing so well, running with other dogs at the dog park, taking long walks, and living the life. We are so grateful for the wonderful life that you gave her. Merry Christmas!”
